A signal amplifier for the quantum computer is created in Russia
One of the most difficult tasks when creating a quantum computer is reading the data about the state of the quantum bit. The signal amplifier allows to better obtain information about the photon, but it brings most of the noise, reducing the accuracy of calculations. Therefore, the creation of an amplifier with a minimum noise level has become one of the key tasks of building a quantum computer. Several leading laboratories in the world already have their own inventions, but it is not possible to acquire them. Now the technology has been mastered by Russian scientists.
Scientists of the «Superconducting metamaterials» laboratory of the National University of Science and Technology “MISiS” together with colleagues from the Institute of Solid State Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics (RAS) developed an unique signal amplifier from a qubit for a quantum computer.
The superconducting amplifier produces the lowest possible noise level. Physicists call it «noise at the vacuum level», and explain it as the quantum limit. It was achieved by replacing the material from which the amplifier was made with by a superconductor.
«These amplifiers may be used not only in quantum computers, but also in the field of quantum informatics, where the mechanism of reading the quantum state of the system is used. For example, in the sensors of cosmic radiation on radio telescopes», — Alexander Karpov, Senior Scientists of the laboratory, told.
