A Spy Hunter to be created in the Tomsk State University
Scientists from the Tomsk State University (TSU) began developing an unmanned vehicle that will track and neutralize spy drones. Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation will participate in financing the development.
Today, unmanned vehicles under the operator’s control are used to combat drones that conduct commercial or industrial espionage. There are some exotic methods, for example, trained birds of prey are involved to fight against drones.
Researchers from TSU intend to create an unmanned vehicle that will be able to track spy drones without operator. In order to find way around obstacles, anticipate the spy-drone movement and find the optimal time to neutralize it, this device requires the «Intelligent settings». «The main difficulty is to provide calculation. The weight that a drone can lift is limited. It is impossible to install a powerful computer there, so calculations will be made on small calculators that can simultaneously process a considerable amount of information», the University press service explained.
There are Russian companies, which also work towards developing of devices to combat unauthorized access with the help of unmanned aircraft system (UAS). For instance, the «Kalashnikov» Concern, part of the «Rostec» corporation, demonstrated an electromagnetic gun that can block the signals of navigation systems coming to the unmanned vehicle.
