A metal powder was used In gas turbine engines manufacturing

The All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) got acquainted with its unique development in the International Military-Technical Forum «ARMY-2017». It is a prototype of low-sized gas turbine engine for unmanned aircrafts, produced for the first time in Russia by layer-by-layer laser melting technology.

The technology assumes the use of metal powder compositions of heat-resistant and aluminum alloys created by the Institute’s specialists. It makes possible to get details 30 times faster than usual. The engine tests were carried out on a specially designed demonstration stand in VIAM. Evgeny Kablov, CEO VIAM, explained that it was possible to print engine parts with unique parameters with the use of additive technologies. «The combustion chamber wall thickness of this engine is 0.3 mm. Such parameters may be achieved using 3D printing».

The International Military-Technical Forum “ARMY-2017” takes place in the “Patriot” Congress and Exhibition Center, Alabino Military Training Grounds and Kubinka Airfield in Moscow region. The running capacities of more than 200 samples of weapons and military engineering are demonstrated in the Forum. More than 1000 Russian and foreign enterprises and organizations participates in Forum.
