Mini-Nuclear Power Plants will replace Diesel-power sets in the Arctic
Deputy Director-General of the Research and Design Institute of Energy Technology (NIKIET) informed that autonomous nuclear power sources are designed to supply remote Arctic settlements.
One of such inventions — a transportable Nuclear Power Plant of low power with a gas-cooled installation «ATGOR», which is capable of producing 3.5 MW of thermal and 1.2 MW of electric power.
Its lifetime is 60 years. «ATGOR» operates under conditions of low temperatures up to -50° С (-58° F).
Bearing in mind that the cost of electricity from diesel generators is 30-50 rubles per kilowatt-hour, the energy produced by Mini-Nuclear Power Plants will cost up to 20 rubles per kilowatt-hour.
