New power units at Leningrad and Rostov Nuclear Power Plants are ready for launch
The Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) issued a licence for the nuclear installations operation of two new power units: unit No.1 at Leningrad NPP-2 (WWER-1200) and No.4 at Rostov NPP (WWER-1000), thus confirming their readiness for nuclear fuel loading in December, 2017.
«The launch program includes the nuclear fuel loading into the reactor vessel in the form of 163 fuel assemblies (FA) and the reactor output to a minimum controllable power level with all necessary measurements. During physical launch, the necessary for the reactor operating characteristics of the core are determined. The program will take place for 25 days», Andrey Gorbunov, the chief engineer of the Rostov NPP, explained.
Vladimir Pereguda, Director of the Leningrad NPP said: «The most modern and powerful power unit of the Leningrad NPP is ready to be put into operation. Construction and installation works, testing of equipment and technological systems are qualitatively carried out in the volume required to start. The personnel of the unit are trained, certified and admitted to work.»
