The cause of the glow could be the wreckage of the «Progress MS» spacecraft

In the last Monday evening, the inhabitants of Dubai watched a bright strip of light appearing in the sky for a minute and a half. The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) wrote on Twitter that a large meteorite flew over the country. Meanwhile members of Dubai Astronomy community claim that the cause of the glow could be the wreckage of the «Progress MS» spacecraft, undocked from the International Space Station (ISS).

According to Dubai Astronomy, residents of the Khalifa City district watched the bright stripes in the sky. The UAE Government mistakenly mentioned via Twitter that according to the national space center, a meteorite flew over the territory of the country. The local media explain the government’s reaction to the fact that the population of the UAE is concerned about the possibility of launching military missiles by Iran.

«The spacecraft disintegrated in the upper atmosphere and broke up into smaller chunks and burned like fireworks», said the Dubai Astronomy representative. ROSCOSMOS has not yet confirmed the information about the spacecraft entry into the atmosphere.

According to NASA, «Progress MS-06» and «Progress MS-07» spacecrafts were near the ISS on October, 16.
