Pevek seaport accepted cargo for the Floating Nuclear Power Plant construction
Pevek seaport (the Chukotka Autonomous District) accommodated the first ships with a batch of building materials and equipment for the unique Floating Nuclear Power Plant (FNPP).
10 thousand tons of sand, crushed stone and cement, as well as metal structures were delivered by motor ships «Kuznetsov» and «Sabetta» from Arkhangelsk. The third ship «Mahmastal» will arrive with an additional cargo the other day. It will provide a reserve for the entire inter-navigational period and will allow to continue the construction of hydraulic structures and coastal infrastructure.
FNNP is currently being built on the «Baltic Shipyard – Shipbuilding» plant basis in St. Petersburg. The Floating Power Unit (FPU) «Akademik Lomonosov» with two steam generating units, KLT-40S reactors of 35 MW capacity will operate in its structure.
Since July 2016, FPU is undergoing planned mooring tests to verify the performance and compliance with design characteristics. In May 2018, «Akademik Lomonosov» will be towed to Murmansk on the «Atomflot» site, where nuclear fuel will be loaded into the reactor. Launch of the unit to be planned in November.
