Researchers found a method of drugs delivering with the use of Chitosan
Researchers from the Moscow State University (MSU), Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU), D.Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia discovered a method that allows to modify microparticles of chitosan for the drugs delivery to the body.
Chitosan is a degradable in the body biocompatible polysaccharide. It is made by treating the chitin shells of shrimp and other crustaceans with an alkaline substance.
Scientists have used a dicarbonic acid to change the properties of chitosan particles. It was found out that the particles properties are affected by the length of hydrocarbon chains in acids. As a result, researchers were able to regulate the particles size and the time for which the particles can dispense drugs in the body.
The discovery will allow to change painful injections by caplets. The study results are published in Colloid and polymer science.
