Rockot Lancher carries the European probe into orbit
The satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA) was carried into orbit on a Rockot launcher from the PLESETSK Space Center.
The orbital unit separated from the carrier 319 seconds after liftoff, the Roscosmos press service told. The upper stage then fired twice, delivering Sentinel-5P to its final orbit.
Sentinel-5 Precursor carries the state-of-the-art Tropomi spectrometer to provide data for monitoring the environment and supporting civil security activities. The probe will also monitor the content of ozone, methane, sulfur oxides and nitrogen in the atmosphere.
Rockot is a Russian space launch vehicle that can launch a payload of 1,950 kilograms into a 200 kilometre high Earth orbit with 63° inclination.
