Russia plans to produce Inexpensive tomographic scanners
Specialists from the National University of Science and Technology (MISiS) together with the Research and Production Association «Magneton» have developed a technology for obtaining magnetic materials and permanent magnets with a low cost.
The innovation, created within the program of import substitution, will enable organizing the production of domestic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) installations and to displace foreign suppliers.
A new magnetic resonance tomography may be used in regional and municipal hospitals and polyclinics. The developers are confident that the cost of diagnostic tests will be reduced by 50%, so the MRI procedure will be accessible to people.
«Using technogenic wastes of magnetic production and cheap alloys of rare earths in the production of raw materials for permanent magnets, we managed to reduce their prime cost by almost 1.5 times. All this enabled to design and reduce the weight of permanent magnets used in the design by almost 30%, and thus, to reduce the device cost», Evgeny Gorelikov, the project manager, explained.
The power consumption of the device will be less than 1 kW, so it can be powered even from renewable energy sources.
