Specialists from the «Rostec» corporation have created a new design of an impulse laser
Shvabe Holding of Rostec State Corporation created and patented a new design of an impulse laser, which allows almost doubling the energy of radiation.
«The ends of the new laser rod are chamfered. Radiation from powerful diode arrays freely penetrates into the active element through them. This allowed us to increase the laser pumping efficiency by 30%», explained the Rostec representative.
Impulse solid-state lasers can be used in rangefinders and target designators, in apparatuses for welding and cutting of various materials.
«The new laser prototype demonstrated energy up to 30 MJ (megajoule) during the tests», the «Rostec» press service said. It is expected that the release of lasers will begin next year.
Researchers from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (USA) meantime have created the brightest laser from the existing ones for scientific purposes. The device enables to observe an unusual interaction of electrons and photons.
