The Chinese get acquainted with laid up NPP in Bashkortostan
«Respublika Bashkortostan» — republican social and political newspaper — reports that сhinese investors visited Agidel. The engineering company «Van Shi» is interested in territory of half-constructed NPP. The Chinese would like to invest in the construction of an agricultural machinery plant on the territory and give 300 job vacancies.
They are satisfied with the location, manufactory buildings, supplied railway branch and proximity of the river port. Zhang Xiaobin — the company representative — said, that in the near future the choice of the construction site will be made. The total investment amount is about 6 billion rubles.
The construction of the nuclear power plant and the satellite town Agidel began in the Krasnokamsky district of the Bashkir ASSR in 1980. Rated capacity of the plant was to be 4000 MW — a standard project similar to the existing Balakovo and Kalinin NPPs. It was planned to build four power units with WWER-1000 reactors.
In 1990, after the Chernobyl accident, construction project has been stopped. Official sources reported that project can not be finished, because it was developed on the basis of outdated requirements document. Also, the results of the environmental impact were not taken into account. The construction of the reactor building and the turbine room of the first block was started to the moment, when NPP was laid up. Also, foundation pits for the 2 and 3 NPP units were prepared. But nuclear fuel was not delivered.
In 1998, the State Assembly of the Bashkortostan Republic lifted the ban on the construction of BashNPP. Since then, the «unfreeze» of the object has been discussed many times, but has not been developed. In 2014, the BashNPP assets was transferred from Rosenergoatom to Bashkortostan. The Republic Development Corporation began to position the industrial site as an industrial park for the construction industry enterprises. Besides, it is planned to construct a ship-building yard and an enterprise for the oil flushes and sludges utilization.
