The system of oil search with the help of gas sensors is being developed in Tomsk
Researchers from the Tomsk State University (TSU) will create a complex for remote exploration of oil and gas fields using a set of gas sensors.
The system will be used, including to identify deposits in the Arctic. Previously scientists have revealed that in the surface layers of the atmosphere above the deposits there may be abnormal gas concentrations compared with neighboring areas. «The operation principle is based on the spectral gases analysis — hydrocarbon indicators. They will be placed on a special “grid” on a prospective territory for extraction», the University press service explained. Scientists expect that the new method use will reduce the cost and the search time of deposits.
With the help of a sensor system, one can monitor the gases level change, the cause of which are mud volcanoes or hydrocarbon deposits on the seabed.
The research is co-financed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. It is expected that the system will be developed within three years.
